Harvest Prep
Overview
In
1992, Harvest Preparatory School became one of the state’s first charter
schools and the first Afro-centric school. In the first year there were 24
students. Today the enrollment stands at 325 for the K-6 program at its 1100
Memorial Highway location, in the heart of North Minneapolis.
Recognizing
the importance of early-childhood programs, Eric and Ella Mahmoud also founded
Seed Academy, a private, non-charter, full-day licensed pre-school for ages 33
months to five years, which today services 150 children on two campuses –
serving as a feeder to Harvest Prep.

Core Strengths While
Harvest Prep’s African American students have always scored much higher than
other Minneapolis schools, in the last two years, the school’s leaders have
ratcheted up the program and have achieved even better results, making it one
of the highest performing charters in the state serving almost an exclusive
minority and low-income community.
